LOADED DICE CLUB JANUARY 2015

Early stages at the battle of Gettysburg.

The New Year got off to a good start at "The Loaded Dice" club with a range of games taking place. Samurai the card game was played a couple of times, as was the miniature WWII tabletop game "Bolt Action". Glen taught  me "Guns of Gettysburg" a game depicting the famous American civil war battle.  I look forward to another rattle at this very interesting game.

LOADED DICE CLUB DECEMBER 2014

Mortar crew in action.

The last club night for 2014 has been and gone. "Bolt Action" a WW2 miniature game has taken root at the club with a game been played at the last three meet ups. This time last year I remember that "Star Wars- X Wing" was proving to be very popular.

Above, American commanders, soon to be captured American commanders, discuss how best to deal with all the casualties. Arthur, Dave S and myself played Memoir 44 - The D Day landings expansion. Omaha and Utah beaches proved to be very bloody indeed for the American commanders. Following a heavy naval bombardment, initial early success for the Yanks with the capture of  "Point de Hoc" by the Rangers was short lived. German tank units released early to the front by Hitler made an instant impact. These units were able to counter attack any American break thoughts and limit or retake the ground lost. As we didn't have enough figures for the units needed we simply marked the strength of each unit with a dice.

It is likely that we shall play the British\Canadian beaches Juno and Sword in the future.

It was nice to have the Artimus, spaceship bridge simulator, crew along again, It has been a year since their last visit.

JULY 2014.

The July club get together took place last night. Board games\card games played included Sekigahara, Napoleon :The Waterloo Campaign -1815 , Britannia, Skull, Hey that's my Fish and Magic the Gathering- the card game. A now regular Warhammer-based role playing session also took place.

The club now caters for a broad range of activities. Not only the board and card game fraternity but also role playing and miniature table top enthusiasts. Only Larping has yet to make an appearance, with only one devotee among our clan.

As always if you are in the area then why not drop in for tea and gaming. Next get together is Sat 26th July.

LOADED DICE CLUB

"The Loaded Dice" Club continues to meet on the first Saturday of each month. The June get together had the largest attendance yet, with seventeen eager souls. This eclectic mix engaged in a range of activities including board gaming, table top miniature's and RPG's.

At least six members are heading to QCON in Belfast on the 20th June for a weekend's geeking out. I will be joining them and plan to play board wargames with friends old and new. I hope to play Maria, Fading Glory, Hannibal : Rome V's Carthage, Sekigahara, Rommel in the Desert and Strike of the Eagle to name but a few. If you come across us, do say hello.

GAMES AND CAKES!

"The Loaded Dice Club" has been vibrant over the summer with new members in attendance and a wide variety of games hitting the table. As always its great to see new faces, who are all very welcome.

A number of games have proven to be popular recently. I managed to break out "Twilight Struggle" after a year and a half's hibernation and introduced it to fellow club members, some of whom have really enjoyed this cold war classic. "Clash of Cultures" has also gone down well, with good reports on this Z-Man civilization game in which each player leads a civilization from a single settlement to a mighty empire. You can listen to the excellent "How to Play" podcast and learn the rules to the game here.

I have really enjoyed playing "El Grande", a wonderful area control game. Players take on the roles of Grandes in medieval Spain. The king's power is flagging, and these powerful lords are vying for control of the various regions. This is certainly not a new game but a wonderful award winning oldie. I had been watching out for a copy of El Grande on eBay for some time and found the second hand copies expensive and hard to come by in the UK. So I turned to ebay.de to purchase a copy which came in a beautiful large metal tin and included Carcassonne for the bargain price of £24, most of which was postage.

Its been a while since a historical wargame was played at the club and recently Arthur and Glen put on a "Saga" dark ages skirmish scenario. The Vikings were to triumph, putting the Anglo- Danish troops to the sword.

It should not go un mention the culinary skills of Godfrey who has provided sustenance to all over the past weeks in the form of the most wonderful cup cakes, chocolate and chip banana cake and chocolate brownies. Attendance to the club is mandatory if only for his produce.
