ACROSS THE BARRICADE'S.

" I love board games,their great. I started getting in to them a few years back and am a member of a club that was just a load of mates getting together. The club is going from strength to strength. It is a great example of the peace process in the North of Ireland. There are people there from different communities, but nobody really knows or cares which one. We are a community of gamers. There are millions of games around nowadays and a lot of them are very creative and fun to play. So try it out, if you feel like discovering something new. "

Dave a member off our club penned the above paragraph and posted it on Facebook recently. His reflection, one which I share whole heartily, correctly identified the unspoken ethos behind "The Loaded Dice" and "War Room" clubs. It is simple, we neither care what age, sex, colour or creed people are who come along to our little gatherings.  It is all about a shared experience, it is about the social interaction and joy we get from our wonderful hobby. It gives hope in a place which at times can leave one disparing at the blinkered actions and mindset of some, actions and mindsets which thankfully are on the retreat.

MAY MAYHEM

The monthly get together took place this weekend at the "Loaded Dice Club" and "The War Room".  A range of games were played in the evening\afternoon including 7Wonders, King of Tokyo, Julius Caesar, Carcassonne, Kingdom Builder, Power Grid, Relic, Star Flux, Star Wars X-Wing, Spartacus and Wyatt Earp.

Some miniature games were played earlier at "The War Room"  including Warhammer 40k, Necromunda and a Commands and Colors English Civil War variant currently been play tested by club member Arthur.

IN THE BEGINING.

The "War Room's" inaugural opening day kicked off on Saturday with a range of table top games being played.  Arthur and Dave played a Commands and Colors Napoleonic break through battle -Vimiero. As always the game looks great when played on the double sized hex terrain.

My self and Al played the Ancient version of Commands and Colors and the battle of Panion. Sadly I got a spanking and the now familiar bitter taste in the mouth feeling. The scenario was great fun and had plenty of decisions and choices, making it an  interesting and exciting experience. I have included a few snaps of the game, see below. The pictures are not great as my kids have been toying with the settings on the camera. Hope they don't hurt the eyes to much.

Ross, Steve, Daniel, Glynn and the rest of the guys played Necromunda, X-Wing, Wings of War and Warhammer 40K. All in all the day was a good start to "The War Room" club.

The War Room is a new monthly wargaming club based just outside Tempo in County Fermanagh. We have set the club up in response to demand for a regular space to play tabletop miniatures games, but we also encourage and welcome other forms of gaming such as CCGs, RPGs card and boardgames. Ross came up with the club name taken from Stanley Kubrick's 1964’s Dr. Strangelove: or How I Learned To Stop Worrying And Love The Bomb. Great choice.

 

The War Game Room will meet on the first Saturday of every month in the Dooneen Community Education Centre near Tempo between  10:30 AM and 18:30 PM.

We stay open all day, and there are plenty of take-aways and restaurants in nearby Tempo and Fivemiletown if you want to take a break for lunch.

Admission is £5 per head.

Under 18s are welcome, but must be accompanied by an adult.

The Centre is a little bit out of the way. From Enniskillen just follow the Tempo Road (B80) out past Tempo and turn off at the sign for the Dooneen Community Education Centre.
